DURATION:  3 DAYS
PURPOSE

This interactive 3-day programme aims to develop great leaders by empowering them to lead with courage and authority. Their awareness of their current l-e-a-d-e-r-s-h-i-p styles will be brought to the fore and they will learn what factors impact these styles and the resultant effect on their subordinates. This course then provides delegates with a toolkit to increase their l-e-a-d-e-r-s-h-i-p skills back in the workplace.

Delegates will develop skills that will build both courageous leadership and followership in the workplace. During this interactive training intervention, delegates will engage in various activities to e-n-a-b-l-e them to put these newly acquired skills into practice.

COURSE OUTLINE

People Management and L-e-a-d-e-r-s-h-i-p Development Skills (including an overview on t-e-a-m dynamics)

Delegates will learn to:

– Identify and develop their l-e-a-d-e-r-s-h-i-p style
– Planning, setting objectives and the benefits of good organisational skills
– Organising resources to m-a-t-c-h task objectives

– Identify their own role in an organisation
– Understand group dynamics and deal with potential conflict in a t-e-a-m or group

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) – a Concept overview & Self Awareness

Knowing ourselves (and those whom we l-e-a-d), is the fundamental key to effective t-e-a-m development.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability we need to identify, understand and control our thoughts and feelings as managers or l-e-a-d-e-r-s, communicate them clearly to others and interact with empathy towards others’ emotions.

This section of the workshop will teach the basis of emotional intelligence and give guidelines on applying the theories in everyday situations that arise when working with subordinates.

Course Objectives on (Emotional Intelligence) will ensure that delegates are able to:

– Understand the concept of emotional intelligence and how this impacts on l-e-a-d-e-r-s-h-i-p
– Analyse the relationship between:

Emotional Intelligence / Self Awareness / Self-Management / S-o-c-i-a-l Awareness

Testing candidates’ predominant Conflict Handling Preferences: This will form the basis on which the conflict management styles will be dealth with.

Conflict Management Styles:
Outcomes

– Understand the nature and the basis of conflict in interpersonal relationships
– Understand why different personalities have more conflict issues than others
– Value the creative potential of conflict
– Appreciate the nature of power and power a-b-u-s-e
– Know your own predominant conflict handling styles
– Analyze conflict situations to determine the most appropriate conflict handling style for the situation – Use all five conflict management styles interchangeably and effectively to manage conflict p-r-o-a-c-t-i-v-e-l-y

Assertiveness

– Distinguish between assertiveness, aggression and submissiveness
– Manage the demands of your personal and professional life
– Learn to decline a request and still be responsive and helpful
– Be congruent whilst being assertive
– Respond to resistance without becoming aggressive or defensive
– Handling criticism

Outcomes:

– Understand the techniques of assertiveness
– Understand why aggressive behaviour doesn’t work in the long run
– Deal with aggressive behaviour in others
– Establish a negotiating position and sticking to it
